The Executive Board of the Spokane Education Association consists of the President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, five Zone Directors, two ESP Co-Chair positions, and the WEA-PAC Chair.  Board positions are elected by the SEA members, with the exception of the CAPE Chair, which is an appointed, non-voting Executive Board positions. We encourage you to get to know your elected leaders!

Jenny Rose

Jenny Rose is starting her sixth year as SEA President. She is on leave from her position as a 3rd grade teacher from Garfield Elementary. Jenny started her SEA journey as a building rep.  Jenny also serves on the WEA Board of Directors, Co-Chairs the WEA Human Civil Rights Committee and serves on other WEA committees.


Debby Chandler has worked for SPS for 27 years and has been at Rogers High School for the last 20 plus years. She is currently the Vice President of SEA, WEA board director and recently elected to the WEA executive committee. She is also the Vice President of the NEA NCESP.

Katy Henry

Katy Henry starts her second year as SEA Recording Secretary. She is currently the Education Intervention Specialist for the elementary Designed Instruction and Preschool programs in Spokane Public Schools. This is her 17th year as a special education teacher and 10th year in Spokane Public Schools. She has been an active member of SEA for all of that time.


Jeremy Shay
Financial Secretary

Jeremy Shay is a science and engineering teacher at Ferris High School. Jeremy has worked on the bargaining teams for the certificated bargain, the TPEP MOU, and chairs the extra-curricular bargaining team. As the financial secretary, Jeremy has worked with the SEA executive board to develop the yearly budget. He has also served as the Executive Board member assigned to the Rogers zone last year and the LC zone in the upcoming year.

Tana Bromps
North Central Zone Director

Tana Bromps has worked at Salk middle school with the Behavioral Intervention Program for the past several years. She became interested in SEA and decided to run for the building rep. position at Bancroft, where she was working prior to Salk. There was more to learn and more ways to be involved so she ran for North Central Zone Director. As the NC Director, she is starting her fourth year. She enjoys each time that she goes out to the schools for a visit and meets new people. She also is part of the ESP training Team and Special Education Leadership.


Janice Petrin

Janice Petrin has been on the Exec Board for 5 years. She also served on the WEA Board of Directors. She has been in the profession for over 30 years and still loves what she does. Never a dull moment!

Michelle Burdick

Michelle Burdick is the new WEA-PAC Manager and is serving her 2nd year on the Executive Board. Michelle has taught Veterinary Assisting at NEWTECH Skills Center for the last 13 years. She also serves as a Building Rep, on several Bargaining Teams, the Chair of the Certificated Leadership Team, and has been elected to several WEA-RAs.

Mandy Manning

Mandy Manning teaches English as a secong language in the Newcomer Center at Ferris High School. She started her career in education as a paraprofessional, joined the Peace Corps, and has since taught a variety of subjects in two foreign countries and in four different school districts. She has been active in SEA since starting in Spokane schools in 2008. She started as a building rep. and has edited the SEA newsletter for the last 6 years. She was elected as the Ferris – Zone 4 director this last spring. She is excited to take an even more active role in SEA.


Les Allred has been with the District 27 years. He is the Head Custodian at Lewis and Clark high school. He is a member of the SEA Ex. Board and Co-Chair for the ACT team for the state of Washington. He is proud to be a part of SEA.

Lynette Spilker
ESP Co-Chair

 Lynette Spilker is into her fourth term as SEA ESP Director on the SEA Board. Lynette has been an active member with SEA for 25 plus years, first with the Security Group and in the last few years with the ESS Unit. She was one of the originators of the School Resource Officers becoming members of SEA. She has also been a SEA Rep, off and on for most of the 25 years. Lynette has been on many different bargaining teams over the years. She is also in her second term as a State Delegate for the NEA yearly convention and a delegate for many years, both with WEA and NEA conventions. She has served on various committees and an active member of ESP Leadership Committee. Lynette also sits on the Spokane Public Schools/SEA Benefit Committee. Her most recent appointment is with the WEA ESP Safety Committee.
