ESA Certification 101:
April 17, 2019 from 4:30-7:30pm at SEA office (230 E Montgomery)
Education Staff Associates (ESA) include school counselors, psychologists, social workers, SLPs, OT/PTs, and nurses. ESAs have complex and different certification and continuing education requirements, with many changes in recent years. This course is all about Washington State ESA certification and continuing education requirements, state policy updates, and support options and geared specifically for ESA members.
National Board Support
Spokane Education Association offers cohorts for members pursuing their National Boards Certification. The cohorts have been around for over 5 years now and have been very successful moving candidates to their NB Certification. Here are a few highlights of SEA’s Cohorts:
SEA is OSPI approved
Our facilitators are state-trained (with OSPI) and they are also SEA members
FREE clock hours
Low candidate-to-facilitator ratio
Expense is quite less than a local college/university (see fee schedule below)
Cohort meeting schedules are determined by the needs/availibilty of your group

Here are some FAQs for our cohort support program:
How do I register? Registration is online via Google Forms. Eventually, you will have to register via the WEA Professional Development Network to earn clock hours (more detail on this will be emailed to registered participants). Want to recieve email updates for 2019-2020? Complete this form. This is not a registration form, just a way to gather who is interested in recieving updates for 2019-2020 cohorts. You will still have to register with SEA's cohort program later.
What are the cohort meeting schedules? 2018-19 cohorts for components 2,3 and 4 kick off together during two indentical offerings on October 2 or October 4 at the SEA office. Registration for kick-off is separate. Exact cohort dates will be set once candidates are placed with a faciliator (placement will take place following the kick-off meetings). See an example calendar under "resources" below for approximate dates. Meeting locations may vary.
What are the cohort fees? Your fees to participate in cohorts are separate from fees paid to National Board. 2018-2019 fees are as follows: $100 for Component 1, $190 for each of Components 2, 3 and 4 and $90 for Foundations (for those who did not attend JumpStart). A fee schedule is available below under "resources".
If I change my mind about cohorts, can I get a refund? Yes, refunds can be processed on a pro-rated basis depending on the number of meetings attended. If you attend more than 2 meetings for a component (inclusive of kick-off), you are not entittled to a refund for that component.
Information Night: May 30, 2019 at the SEA/WEA-Eastern office (register here) This will be an overview and Q&A session for those who are considering National Boards and/or just want to find out more. Hosted by our cohort facilitators who are your fellow SEA members, you will gain a better understanding of what the process is like and if it is a good fit for you. Read more and register here on the PD Network.
